Become a Leader and Give Back.

Often unrecognized, volunteerism helped to carve out the communities in which we live. Viewed as an altruistic event, there is a benefit to both the volunteer and the intended organization. A great way to participate in something is to lead it.

Corporate Responsibility

There has been a push lately, even with the troubled economy, for companies to maintain a certain level of citizenship?supporting national causes while assisting with local needs and issues. If you want to be involved, suggest putting a team together for a ?walk with a cause.? From April through October, there is a huge number of 3K, 5K, 10K walk/runs and even half and full marathons to chose from.

Working the Plan

While pitching this to your corporate executives, make sure you have a plan complete with an explanation of how all parties can benefit
from this participation.

  1. Suggest yourself as the Team Leader and get all of the information from the charitable organization before this discussion. Have a plan for recruiting walkers/runners and encouraging fundraising (that is the whole point after all).
  2. Request that your company match the donations to increase the overall total. This makes a great story for your firm to capitalize on and supports an overall corporate humanitarian philosophy.
  3. Incorporate team building opportunities into the preparation process?training dates, fundraising events and even lunch after the walk, itself. This increases the benefit to the company which now has happy employees.

It?s easy to give back; you just need to know where to start. Start with you.
